His work is subject of a review published in <a class=\"publication-title-link\" title=\"Go to Current Opinion in Genetics &amp; Development on ScienceDirect\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0959437X20300320?via%3Dihub\">Current Opinion in Genetics &amp; Development<\/a> and a manuscript in preparation.<\/p>\r\n<p><span class=\"content\"><span class=\"text given-name\">Aur\u00e9lien<\/span><span class=\"text surname\">Villedieu<\/span><\/span> did his thesis under the direction de Dr. Yohanns Bella\u00efche at the <a href=\"https:\/\/science.institut-curie.org\/research\/biology-cancer-genetics-and-epigenetics\/developmental-biology-and-genetics\/team-bellaiche\/\">Institut Curie<\/a> in Paris. &nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h5>\r\n<h5>&nbsp;<\/h5>\r\n<h5>The work of the winner :<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7690 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sfbd.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/ExF-7nsW8AoUhsj-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sfbd.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/ExF-7nsW8AoUhsj-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sfbd.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/ExF-7nsW8AoUhsj-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sfbd.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/ExF-7nsW8AoUhsj.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> \r\n\r\n<\/h5>\r\n<div>\r\n<p>During his thesis, Aur\u00e9lien focused on the complex morphogenetic processes involved in neck formation during metamorphosis in&nbsp;<i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">Drosophila<\/i>, a little-studied phenomenon that relies on the macroscopic invagination of an epithelium. By combining confocal microscopy imaging, laser ablation and genetic approaches, Aur\u00e9lien was able to show that such invagination results from a new mechanism involving, on the one hand, a process similar to cell cytokinesis on a very large scale and, on the other hand, collective migration on the apical side of the cells. Furthermore, he revealed that epithelial migration is controlled by the Wnt\/Fz pathway and depends on the attachment of the tissue to the apical extracellular matrix.
