During the “Shaping life 2” meeting, I had the opportunity to learn so much about different topics that were new for me! I particularly enjoyed the talk of Dr.Thibaut Brunet about choanoflagellates. Choanoflagellates represent the closest relatives of animals and, thanks to their phylogenetic position, they are a key group to study metazoans evolution. In his talk, Dr. Thibaut Brunet described a new colonial choanoflagelate species that undergo collective contractility, which results in an inversion of the colony. In addition, he described the amoeboid motility of the well established model organisms Salpingoeca rosetta. I was so fascinated by this diversity that I decided to further investigate the topic reading more about these organisms.
→ Marta presented a talk entitled: « Vasal budding: characterization of a new form of non-embryonic development in the colonial ascidian Polyandrocarpa zorritensis »
