Opinion: short-term contracts and lab closure
During the current period of lock-down and following the closure of the laboratories, we are not all affected in the same way. Non-permanent colleagues including PhD students, post-docs and master trainees pay the heaviest price and they must be able to be helped and reassured. Similarly, as experimental projects come to a halt for several months, they cannot be carried out without any cost extension of the research contracts obtained by the laboratories.
28 learned societies, including the SFBD, are alerting to the situation of precarious research staff whose work is at a standstill because of the closure of laboratories. They formulate 5 concrete requests to limit the long-term impact on projects.
