Travel grants

Each year, the French Society of Developmental Biology awards around 10 travel grants to PhD students (in their 2nd year at least) or to young post-doctoral researchers members of the SFBD and willing to present their work (with a poster or an oral presentation) during an international conference. From this year we will provide more help to those candidates favoring the train as means of transport.

Applications are evaluated 3 times a year and have the following deadlines for the 2020 season:  15/01/2020 (Shaping Life2), 15/03/2020 (cancelled due to Covid19) and 31/08/2020.

Transport and registration fees up to 400€ for Europe when travelling by plane and 500€ when travelling by train. 500€ for other destinations.

How to apply?

The application (in French or English) must include the following information in a single pdf file:

  1. Your CV mentioning your academic career, publications and previous participation to other conferences (2 pages max),
  2. A short letter explaining the choice of the congress in relationship with the developmental biology field,
  3. A letter from the thesis director / team leader justifying the need for funding,
  4. The congress information and a copy of the abstract submitted to the congress (one page maximum, in English).

Selection procedure

The selection is made by the SFBD Board based on the content of the application.

  • Candidates must be affiliated to the SFBD as an individual or as a member of an affiliated team.
  • The logo of the SFBD must appear in the poster or powerpoint
  • After the congress, a text (1/2 page) describing the benefits of attending the congress should be sent to us (bourses-voyages@sfbd.fr)). This text will be published on the website as well as in the next letter of the SFBD.
